2016 Basketball Hoopla
The Academy provides school supplies, academic support and sports programs for children enrolled in elementary schools located in predominately minority communities.
In addition to assisting children with their homework, volunteers in the Academy’s Adopt-A-School program supervise boys and girls in basketball drills and games during school physical activities breaks. After school, Academy volunteers organize and coach girls and boys in the fundamentals of basketball.
About 100 former classmates, friends and family from throughout California and as far away as Washington, DC gathered for a very special "family reunion" on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at Robb Park in Ocean Beach.
Former SDSU student-athletes from the '60s and ‘70s have been hosting an annual Memorial Day picnic for more than 40 years. This Memorial Day, the athletes teamed with former SDSU Black EOP students to make the event a community family picnic and college reunion.
Academy’s "Southeast San Diego Youth Basketball Hoopla," which takes place this Saturday at Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center on Saturday, November 17, 2016.
The Hoopla is a free, community service event for children ages 5 to 12 who live in Southeast San Diego. Hoopla activities included conditioning drills, basketball drills, basketball skills contests, basketball games and an awards ceremony.
