Youth Sports Program

Homepage background_1500

The Academy sponsors community-based youth sports teams that make it possible for students from low-income to participate in organized sports activities. Participants must maintain acceptable academic progress, practice good citizenship, be disciplined and respectful of others.

The Academy‘s Youth Sports component works with players and their parents to use young athletes’ interest in sports to motivate them to excel academically, and to encourage them to practice acceptable and appropriate social-interaction skills. The Academy places a great deal importance on academic progress and social responsibility. In addition to being healthy, fit and skilled athletes, we want our kids to do well academically and socially.

In addition to teaching our young athletes the fundamentals of a particular sport, the Academy stresses values and principles that help our young athletes become well-rounded individuals. The Academy teaches its players the importance of personal attributes such as integrity, sportsmanship, teamwork, and character.

The Academy sponsors after-school sports programs and youth-focused athletic events for children enrolled in selected Southeastern San Diego elementary schools. As a community service, the Academy holds a free basketball camp that includes basketball skills contests and basketball games.
